The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from the Angul Collector over unsafe school building within four weeks.
According to Human Rights Watch secretary and petitioner Sangita Swain, though the School and Mass Education department has declared the Jereng High School at Dehury Sahi in Chendipada in Angul district as unsafe since 2008, as many as 292 students are still reading and attending classes at the same building without any alternative.
The petitioner urged the commission to take up the issue seriously, besides taking legal action against all concerned for not ensuring a new school building. She also requested the rights panel to provide compensation to students for violation of their right to education.
