After boycotting duties for five days, the striking junior doctors of the SCB Medical College Hospital here resumed their duties on Saturday evening. “Since most of our demands pertaining to security at workplaces were satisfactorily addressed, we to call off the strike,” said Junior
Doctors’ Association (JDA) secretary Ritesh Acharya. The junior doctors deployed for emergency units resumed their duties at 5 pm, said a hospital source, adding that many others also went round the wards.
Around 500 junior doctors were boycotting their duties since Monday evening in protest against an alleged attack on a colleague by some relatives of a patient. Under the new arrangements, armed policemen would be deployed in the hospital and escort parties would accompany women doctors visiting wards on emergency duties at night.
Patient’s attendants would be issued with passes to get rid of unwanted visitors and entry into the campus through the main gates would be regulated and restricted.
On their demand of arrest of the culprits, who allegedly attacked a doctor, the striking doctors did not precipitate the issue further hoping that police would act against the accused as per law.
