A customer of the SBI, Bilaipada Branch in Keonhar on Wednesday lost `5,000 from his savings bank account after giving his ATM number to an unknown caller.

Ranjit lohar, an employee of the Tata Sponge plant, gave his ATM number to a phone caller who said, “I am calling from an SBI Branch. Your ATM account is out of order. So give the number of your ATM card so that the same can be set right.” After some time, lohar suspected the caller and rushed to an ATM counter to check his account balance. He was astonished to see that `5000 had been debited from his account.

He lodged an FIR in Beat House police station. As police couldn’t assure him help, lohar went to the SBI Branch office and apprised the Branch Manager about the withdrawal.

The Manager said such fake phone calls are coming daily to customers against which the SBI also alerts them. He said customers shouldn’t share their bank details with anybody, let alone unknown people.
