Two persons, including the husband of Nuagaon Sarpanch, were killed in Banki of Cuttack district on Saturday afternoon. They were identified as Bhagaban Swain, husband of Sarpanch Mamata Mohapatra, and Aditya Ranasingh, who was working as a journalist with a web channel.
As per reports, Swain, Ranasingh and another person were returning home by a motorcycle from Banki town. A group of four to five armed miscreants attacked them near Joklanji under the Baidyanath police limits. While one of them managed to escape, the miscreants attacked Swain and Ranasingh with sharp weapons.
Ranasingh died on the spot while Swain was admitted to the local hospital and later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack. However, Swain died while undergoing treatment at the SCB hospital.
After receiving information, police reached the spot and seized the two bodies. Though the motive behind the murders was yet to be clear, past enmity was suspected to be the reason.
Investigation into the case was on.
