AUROBINDA DAS

After his unceremonious exit from the BJD Ministry, now MlA Sarada Prasad Nayak is in the line of fire of the councilors of the Rourkela Municipality for interfering in the affairs of the civic body. In the name of development of the civic body and sorting out its various problems, Nayak attended a few monthly council meetings of the municipality, much to the chagrin of the councillors.

In the latest meeting for April held on Monday, Nayak was in the target of the Congress, BJP and some dissident BJD councillors for laying foundation stone of the Biju Patnaik Indoor Hall on April 17 at Uditnagar Parade Ground without prior discussion with the councillors and approval of the municipality. It is to be mentioned here that for any type of activities under the jurisdiction of the civic body, prior permission of the municipality is a must. Then under what authority Nayak laid the stone, asked Congress councillor Ramesh Bal.

Bal said if the MlA is interested to build of an indoor hall, then he could have considered other venues like Koelnagar Mini Stadium, Birsa Munda Stadium, Chhend Mini Stadium, etc which are in abandoned condition for many years. Bal also got support of BJD councilor Nirakar lenka.

The councillors, irrespective of party line, also flayed Executive Officer Bijay Swain’s mode of functioning. The councillors alleged that there was total collapse of sanitation in the main market area, delay in road repairing, electrification, holding survey for widow, old age pension and handicap pension, etc due to negligence of the civic body authorities.
