After spending about two years in prison for alleged Maoist link, Sangram Mohanty, convener of Jana Adhikara Manch (JAM) was released from the Brahmapur Circle Jail here on Monday.

Mohanty was released as the Supreme Court granted him bail on Friday last. Besides, his family members and friends, Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) president Pyarimohan Mohapatra was present at the jail gate to receive Sangram.

“Sangram was arrested because he had joined OJM. Naveen Niwas dare not arrest him again,” said Mohapatra.“I was falsely implicated in Maoist cases,” said Sangram after his release.“I have enough faith on judiciary and hope I will win in the case against the Government,” he added.

Sangram was in jail after he was arrested from a place near Kamalapur under Adava police station limits in Gajapati district on December 5, 2012 for his alleged involvement in 15 cases, including Maoist activities in Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

His father Dandapani Mohanty was also housed in the jail after his arrest from his residence here on February 8, 2013 on charges of Maoist activities. At least 22 different cases in various police stations were pending against him. He, however, has got bail in 18 cases, sources said.
