The Utkal Sammilani has urged State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr Mona Sharma not to put any restriction on the observation of the Utkal Divas on April 1 at the Government-level though it falls during the period of model code of conduct for elections.
Notably, during the 2009 general elections, former Election Commissioner Alka Panda had not permitted the State Information and Public Relation Department to observe the day due to the model code of conduct.
A team of representatives of the Sammilani including its State general secretary Dr Adwaita Kumar Patra, Bhubaneswar branch head Bibhuti Mishra, Mancheswar Industrial branch head Dillip Dashsharma and treasurer Ussarani Mohanty submitted a memorandum to Dr Sharma in this regard.
Besides, the body also recommended the Commission to direct the political parties not to put up leaflets, banner and flags on the statues at roadsides during elections. Dr Sharma assured the members to take appropriate steps in this regard.
