Love knows no limits or bounds. Such a case has come to the fore in the district amid lockdown where two girls, who were in love with each other,  have committed to spend their lives together by becoming life partners. They exchanged garlands in front of Goddess Durga at a temple here.

This is the second instance in the district where a same-sex marriage between girls has been held.

Charulata Mallick (30), a resident of Karilopatana GP under Marshaghai block, and Sandhyarani  Mallick (24) of Ghodadanda (Hurasahi) under Garadapur block on Wednesday solemnised  their same-sex marriage at Karilopatana –based Durga devi temple.

According to the girls , both of them  came in contact with each other and developed intimacy. Later, they  started loving with each other and decided to marry.

Though they faced opposition from the family members, yet they remained firm on their decision.

“We both decided to live with each other for which we fled our houses in March and returned to our locality on Wednesday,"  they informed the duo girls.

When the matter come to the notice of Sandhyarani’s father, the family members came to the house of Charulata and discussed with her parents. Later, both the family members gave nod to the same-sex marriage between Charulata and Sandhyarani.

Even though India does not have a law on same-sex marriages, but the two are within their legal rights to live with each other since the Supreme Court has partly struck down Section 377 of IPC, said Bidhubhusan Mohapatra, a lawyer.

Notably, in January 2019, one Sabitri Parida of Mahakalpada block solemnised same-sex marriage with Monalisha Nayak of Pattamundai  block and have been staying as life partner in the Kendrapada township-based short stay home.
