A single account number of the State Bank of India (SBI) has been issued to two different persons and, surprisingly, transaction has been going on in the account by the duo.

The matter came to the fore recently following one of the account holders, who opened the account  more than a decade back, came to know that transactions took place on his account till January 19, though he had not made any transaction in the recent past. He later inquired about the matter by visiting to the bank and was informed that his account number too had been issued to another person, having the same name though the address was different.

The victim is Hemanta Kumar Sahoo of Mahipal village. The other person in same who has been issued the same AC No. is  from Koro, via Choudakulat.

Though both the accounts were operational over the years ,but the duo account holders failed to get any clue about it.

Hemant of Mahipal had withdrawn money during lockdown period  from his  account  and did not make any transaction ever since. But recently, when he went to SBI bank for depositing money and passbook update, he found some recent transactions. He found that Rs 1.60  lakh had been transacted  in different dates whereas his ATM had been blocked."Though they have provided KYC, how the bank authority failed to detect that there are two account holders by same name. The bank authority should rectify it soon. Responsibility should be fixed against the errant and inquiry should be made," stated former District Bar Asssociation president Bhimasen Bhuiyan.

Meanwhile, Hemanta Kumar Sahoo, of Mahipal, lodged a complaint in this regard at Kendrapada Town police station.
