Sambalpur lawyers shut down Govt offices

PNS

Demand halt to online certificate registration

The lawyers here closed all the Revenue department offices on Friday pressing for a four-point charter of demands. Their main demand was a halt to online registration of certificates.

The other three demands included eviction drive in all important places, arrest of the main accused in the attack on advocate Jatindra Bisi and non-shifting of the Tehsil office to a new place inside the settlement office.

Sambalpur district bar association president Sabir Ahammed said, “We don’t protest on-line application for different purposes like residential, income and caste etc. But we want off line system to continue like before.”

At the same time, the bar association also wants to join hands with the administration to make Sambalpur encroachment free.

This is highly needed for better traffic management and beautification of the town, Ahammed added.

The Tehsil office is now situated in a prominent place of the town inside the court premises. Since, the district administration wants to shift it to a new place, we protest the proposal, he said further.

The advocates picketed in front of all the offices and kept the main gates closed. The offices including that of the RDC (ND), the Collector, the Sub Collector and the Tehsildar etc were closed for the whole day.

A discussion among the advocates and the district administration was held but the outcome was not satisfactory since the Collector didn’t agree to continue the off line application system, said bar association secretary Chandra Kumar Mohanty.

To chalk out further course of action, a general body meeting of the bar association would be held on Sunday afternoon, Mohanty informed. When contacted, Collector Balwant Singh said that on-line application process was being followed all over the country. Meanwhile police have arrested Apu Gand, the main accused in connection with the advocate attack case.
