Bowing down to the pressure of agitating employees and opposition parties, Bhandaripokhari BJD MlA and Barpada School of Engineering and Technology (BSET) president Prafulla Samal on Monday urged the State Government to take over administrative charges of the institution.

Samal met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and apprised him about the current status of the college. “In view of the current unrest in BSET in Bhadrak, the State Government should takeover administrative charges of the institution with immediate effect,” said Samal soon after the meeting.

Samal further argued that looking at the large scale vacancy in engineering seats, it is impossible to pay salaries to the staff. “Under such circumstances, it is impossible for the management to run the college,” added Samal.

On Sunday, Bhadrak town observed a 12-hour bandh protesting against the corruption and violence at the college which is largely due to a tussle between the incumbent governing body of the institute and another group.

Several allegations of huge misappropriation of college funds and non-payment of salaries to the employees for over four months were leveled over the last few weeks.

Meanwhile, a large number of employees of the institute held a rally at the Mahatma Gandhi Marge here demanding immediate disbursement of their pending salary.
