Samajwadi party, which had miserably failed to gain attention of voters in the state during the Assembly election held in November, has announced on Wednesday that it will contest lok Sabha polls on six seats in the state.
“National chief of the party Mulayam Singh Yadav has entrusted me with party’s responsibility in the state and we have decided to contest elections from Raipur, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Korba, Bastar and Janjgir lok Sabha seats,” said newly-appointed State President of the party Jamuna Devi, who is also an advocate. Candidates from all the six seats have been decided. She was addressing mediapersons during a press conference held in the city on Wednesday .
The party had contested the Assembly elections in November on 40 seats and had received only 40,000 in total. It may be noted that there are around 40,000 members of the party in the state indicating that Samajwadi party failed to reach the public in Chhattisgarh.
Even after a poor performance in the state, the party is hopeful that it will receive better response from the voters in the upcoming lok Sabha elections in the state.
“We are confident that our candidates will win from their respective constituencies. Not only this, the next Prime Minister of our country will also be a product of the third-front and not of UPA or NDA,” said former-spokesperson of the state unit of the party Kunal Shukla.
Chief of the party’s state unit Jamuna Devi admitted that despite the fact that the party has been working in the state for the last 15 years, its presence among the public could have been stronger.
Shankar thakur, party’s candidate from Bastar seat, said that the leaders in the region have failed to address people’s problem for several years now and said that he is receiving positive response from the locals of Bastar.
