The Samajwadi Party (SP) State unit on Tuesday demanded that Congress president Sonia Gandhi expel Union Minister of Steel Beni Prasad Verma from the party and Cabinet for his “derogatory remarks” against SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The party workers led by their State unit president Rabi Behera held a rally here and burnt an effigy of Verma.
“Earlier another senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi had also made certain negative remarks against Mulayam Singh Yadav and all this is meant for maligning the SP leadership because the SP is emerging as a forceful contender to the Congress in the national arena,” Behera said.
Notably, Verma remarked that Mulayam has links with terrorists.
