Saline embankments to be built along B'swar coast

PNS

In order to prevent ingression of saline water into cultivated land during high tide in sea, the Water Resources Department has decided to erect embankments at many places from Bhograi to Sadar blocks in Baleswar district with an estimated cost of Rs 104 crore.

This was informed by MP Rabindra Kumar Jena at a meeting held at Jaleswar on Wednesday. Notably, in August last year, hundreds of acres of agriculture land were submerged with salty water for days together due to tidal surge, resulting in huge crop loss of farmers.

The issue was raised in the parliament by MP Jena. After assurance by the concerned Ministry, the Water Resources Department approved construction of saline embankments in Bhograi, Baliapal, Basta and Sadar blocks to prevent such recurrences. A technical expert team after making a survey would prepare a report to execute the project, informed Jena.  He further informed a rail flyover bridge and safety measures for riverside villages in Jaleswar were on the cards. On the occasion, the MP also inaugurated a 63-kv transformer at the GK Bhattar Hospital premises.
