Sahara India Pariwar launched its 40th anniversary celebrations, attended by thousands of its employees from Chattisgarh and Odisha, in Raipur on Monday. A 'Sahara Milan' yatra led by its Chairman, Subrata Roy Sahara, marked the occasion.

The company in a statement said, "Sahara was started in 1978 with 3 workers, two thousand rupees, on the unique concept of a family and with a oath of collective development and continuous growth. It has grown into an organisation with India's largest work force, only after the Indian Railways, with more than 13 lakh workers, assets with market value of around two lakh crore and around 10 crore customers across India."

Meanwhile, a statement issued by Sahara's lawyer in connection with the case in the Supreme Court over customers' deposits, claimed that it has already deposited around Rs 19,000 cr with the SEBI.

"We are confident that once the verification (of depositors) is done by the SEBI, which we plead to be started soon as per the order of the Supreme Court, the entire money deposited will come back to Sahara," the lawyer asserted. All its investors are genuine, he claimed.

He said there has not been a single complaint  from any of its three crore investors.
