MAlAY RAY

The attempt of a nurse working in a private clinic in Sundargarh to buy a newborn baby boy from his unmarried parents was foiled when the latter did not agree to her deal here.

According to sources, one Sunil Majhi, a resident of  Kurangamal of Jashpur district of Chhatisgarh, had fallen in love with  his uncle’s (father’s younger brother) daughter and both had maintained physical relationship, following which the girl had become pregnant.

As it was a shameful fact, Sunil and the girl came out of their houses on the plea of doing jobs and reached Bargaon in Sundargarh district to reside at a friend’s house about four months ago.

The duo worked as labourers in a factory. Earlier, they had consulted to undergo abortion but since it was very late, the abortion was not possible. Finding no other alternative, Sunil and the girl had decided to go for delivery of the child.

The girl was finally admitted at the Bargaon community health centre. A nurse working there had come to know about their unwillingness for child. She contacted another nurse identified as Imilia Pink, working in a private clinic and had told her about them.

Imilia reached in the evening at  Bargaon and had told Sunil and the girl that she would buy their child for Rs 25,000. She had taken them in a Bolero to a private nursing home but doctor there advised to take her to the Sundargarh DHH. On November 18, the girl gave birth to a boy child at 12.12 am. As per earlier discussion, nurse Imilia reached there on  November 20 morning and talked insisted Sunil on handing over the child.

Hearing this, mother of the child did not agree following which Imilia demanded Rs 15,000 from them and claimed that she had spent the sum of money for her treatment for delivery.

Sunil had to give  her Rs 15,000 but when other people present there heard about the deal to buy the child, they informed the hospital authorities, besides the police.

The police took Imilia and Sunil for interrogation. Imilia told that since she was childless, she was trying to buy the child.  Police told Imilia to return Rs15000 to Sunil which she had taken from him.
