PNS

The Vigilance police nabbed a Medical Officer (Ayush) of the Gairabahal Primary Health Centre (PHC) under Kutra block in the district on Friday while taking a bribe of Rs 4,000 from an auto driver.

The doctor, identified as Sarada Prasanna Behera, had earlier taken Rs 8,000 from the auto driver.

On July 17, an auto-rickshaw in which passengers were travelling had met with an accident in which three passengers were injured. Driver Arbin Khalko had taken the injured to the PHC.

Behera after treating the patients, however, had demanded Rs 12,000 from the driver. When Arbin opposed, Dr Behera threatened him of informing police about the accident that might lead to cancellation of his driving licence if he did not pay him Rs 12,000. With no option, Arbin paid Rs 8,000 bribe to Behera 17 and told him to pay Rs 4,000 later.
