The State Election Commission (SEC) on Monday postponed the rural by-elections scheduled for March 24 due to the Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) threat. State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi held discussions with senior officials and took ground realities report and implementation of COVID-19 Regulations by the State Government into consideration and postponed the by-polls with immediate effect until further orders.
The SEC had earlier issued notifications to hold by-elections to the posts of two Zilla Parishad Members, six Sarpanches, eight Panchayat Samiti members and 84 Ward Members on March 24.
