Masked miscreants looted cash of about Rs70,000 from the house of woman sarpanch of Sundargarh district’s Ekma gram panchayat under the Bargaon police station Sukanti Tirkey on Monday night.
While Sukanti and her husband leon Tirkey sleeping, four miscreants entered into their house through the thatched roof and looted the money at gunpoint. The scared couple handed over the key of an almirah to the criminals.
The looters tied the hands of the Tirkey couple with a rope and took away the cash from the almirah and a vanity bag. Then, they started talking in broken Hindi and threatened to kill them. But when the couple requested not to kill them, they left the house keeping it locked from outside.
On Tuesday morning, with the help of co-villagers the couple lodged a complaint at the Bargaon PS. Police suspect that the criminals might have fled to Jharkhand as Bargaon is a bordering area.It may be mentioned that a couple of weeks ago, a woman teacher and her husband in the area were asked to pay ransom and a poster was pasted in their house. Now, the looting of the sarpanch’s house has further scared the villagers.
