Baleswar MP RK Jena in the Parliament has sought to know from the concerned Ministry about the encroachment of land of the Pradip Port by many individuals and others and the Government’s roadmap to reclaim the land and rehabilitation of the encroachers.
On Thursday, Jena said about 73.5 acre of land has been encroached. In response to his question, the Minister said Rs2,500 crore has been earmarked for development of the port and making it a modernized world class port so as to connect the East with the West. The allocation includes the cost of rehabilitation.
Jena also demanded that the proposed port in Baleswar be included under the Sagarmela project. The Minister him assured to look into the matter and will hold a high-level meeting to this effect.
Notably, Jena had earlier demanded for revival of the proposed port project at Chaumukh, Baliapal under the Sagarmela project and declaration of the area as coastal economic zone.
