Unidentified miscreants looted about Rs 12 lakh by breaking an Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) ATM at Mulisingh village under the Tirtol police station in the district on Saturday night.
The incident came to the fore after some customers visited the looted ATM in the morning. Finding the machine broken, they called up the bank authorities and informed about the matter.
“I came to know about the loot at around 6 am today after a customer called me. After reaching the spot and conducting an inquiry I found the ATM’s cash panel cut with the help of a gas cutter which could only be carried out by professionals. A case has been lodged with police in connection with the incident,” informed IOB Mulasing Branch Manager Harischandra Nayak.
“We had loaded Rs 17 lakh in the looted ATM at around 12 noon on Friday. However, cash to the tune of Rs 5 lakh had been withdrawn by customers till the same evening. Miscreants have managed to decamp with Rs 12 lakh,” he added.
Police are investigating into the incident. This was the first time an ATM has been looted in the district.
