Pradesh Congress Committee president Niranjan Patnaik on Sunday questioned effective implementation of various welfare schemes in Malkangiri district and said condition of the district is horrible due to lack of ‘political will’ to develop this backward Maoist-hit region.
Patnaik, after returning from a visit to Malkangiri along with a party’s delegation, told a news conference here that though there is no dearth of funds as the State Government is receiving crores of rupees under different
developmental schemes from the Centre, but the funds have remained unspent. The people are still suffering due to want of roads, drinking water and other facilities, he said.
Around Rs 1,100 crore meant for various schemes have remained unutilised in Malkangiri district, he alleged, demanding that the Chief Minister immediately review the situation.
Patnaik pointed out that elected representatives have resigned in Malkangiri and a naib sarpanch was killed there recently.
