Busting an inter-State ganja smuggling racket, the Jeypore police of Koraput district seized cannabis worth Rs 1 crore near Jeypore Ghat while it was being transported to Punjab on Thursday night.
Acting on reliable information, a police team led by Jeypore Sadar police station OIC A Mahakur conducted a crackdown near Jeypore Ghat and intercepted a truck coming from Koraput. On searching vehicle, the cops recovered 93 packets containing 1,001 kg of ganja worth Rs 1 crore and nabbed a person, who was driving truck. The cops seized truck, three mobile phones from his possession.
The accused, Amrinder Singh (31) of Haryana, was produced before court on Friday. “The other persons involved in racket are being identified and steps are being taken to apprehend suspects as soon as possible,” said police.
