The All India Railway Engineers’ Federation (AIREF) will stage an ‘Atmsamman (self-respect) Rally’ in New Delhi on December 9 to protest the anomalies in the 6th Pay Commission report and “continuous negligence” by the Railway Board.

The Central Government has announced to set up a 7th Pay Commission, but the anomalies in the 6th Pay Commission report have not been corrected as yet, says AIREF working president Sudhamaya Bajapayi.

East Coast Railway Engineers’ Association (ECoREA) general secretary Bobin Mohanty said the Railway Board has solved anomalies of some cadres but not considered those of engineers, who shoulder responsibilities of safe journey of million passengers daily.

Both degree engineers and nurses join the railways in sane grade pay of `4,600 which is a humiliation to the technical cadre. Further, a nurse gets two promotions, but degree engineers do not get a single promotion.

More than a hundred engineers of the ECoR would join the Delhi rally, Mohanty said. “Due to sincere efforts made by East Coast Railway Engineers’ Association (ECoREA member Sanjib Kumar,) a dozen MPs of Odisha have recommended our demands to the Railway Ministry for consideration,” he said.
