Expressing discontentment over the delay in fulfilment of certain demands, the All India Railway Engineers Federation (AIREF) has warned to stage demonstrations in coming days, if the railway administration does not take any step in this regard.
A decision to this effect was taken at the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of the AIRF held in Kolkata on Sunday last. East Coast Railway Engineers’ Association (ECoREA) president Bobin Mohanty, general secretary BP Dash, SB Satpathy, PC Sahu and CR Swain attended the meeting.
The demands include accordance of like Group-B status to all railway engineers, recognition to AIREF, etc. The engineers lamented that the 7th central pay commission would submit its report very soon; however, the anomalies made in the 6th pay commission are yet to be sorted out.
Hence, it was decided to stage demonstrations in different phases beginning from July 20. A post card drive would begin from July 20 to August 5, during which, all railway engineers would send post cards to the Prime Minister. In the next phase, they would observe a protest week from August 3 to 7 by wearing black badges while discharging official works. On the last day, they would submit memorandums to the Prime Minister and Railway Minister through the general managers.
