The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela local Centre organised a technical paper meeting on ‘Tall Battery of Coke Oven Operation’ recently. Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) Deputy General Manager (Operation) SS Mashyal gave a graphical presentation on material flow diagram of coal handling plant and inside coke oven.
He elaborated on constituents of a battery, its mechanical structures, its maintenance, process of carbonization, functions of coke, factors influencing coke quality, products of coal carbonization, heat recovery process, dry cooling of coke, its advantages and disadvantages.
He also presented material flow diagram of coke screening plant and its structure. The presentation was followed by a brief interactive discussion on the theme.
