River water ingress: K'pada villagers in distress

PNS

The tidal water in Kharasrota river gushed into Jaykunda, Padanpur, Bishraghat villages under Katanabania gram panchayat by breaching a weak village embankment. As a result, during the last four days, the people were leading a miserable life.

The water flew knee deep at the village roads whereas the agriculture fields were submerged with river water from Tarini Chowk to Basantipadia. The locals feared to come out of their houses, apprehending presence of salt water crocodiles in the flood water.

Notably, these villages are located near the Bhitarkanika National Park and the Kharasrota river is home to several estuarine crocodiles. The locals demanded that the district administration take permanent measures for strengthening the village embankment road.
