A group of rights activists led by Pradip Pradhan on Wednesday met Kendapada SP Nitinjit Singh and demanded arrest of all culprits involved in the merciless attack on 10-year-old son of an RTI applicant occurred on May 10, 2016.

They alleged that four-to-five main accused in the case have managed to escape from the area due to negligence of police.

“Had the police taken timely action, the main accused could have been arrested on the same day,” said Pradhan

Notably, Suvam Rout (10), a son of rights activist, had been attacked mercilessly when he was asleep in his house on May 10 night.

The police have so far arrested two persons, Pravat Kumar Sahu, Udayabata Upper Primary School management committee chairman, and Dipu Nayak of Kunarapal village, they informed.

The rights activist said Kalandi Nayak, a poor villager of Marshaghai and a member of the aforesaid school, had found misappropriation of  around Rs 15 lakh that was meant for repair of the school and mismanagement of  Midday Meal fund committed by the Headmaster, Block Education Officer and other officials. To unearth the truth, he filed a number of complaints to different offices like District Collector, District Project Coordinator, School and Mass Education Department and State Vigilance.

By this, the whole administration and ruling political leaders got disturbed and tried to convince him to withdraw the applications and petitions. When Kalandi insisted not to withdraw them, he received a lot of threat calls of murder from different people.
