Four Bangladeshi infiltrators, who were convicted in cases of violation of the Foreign National Act and dacoity, are still languishing in the Baleswar jail even after completion of their 10-year-jail terms on June 8, 2019.

They are Md Nawab Arif Khan (32), Pousha Khan (33), Sk Zahir (31) and Abdulla  Basar Mulla (31), all of Hamardi village under the Bhanga police station in Faridpur district.

They couldn’t be deported as the officials here yet to get any response from the Bangladesh Government despite several correspondences.

Thus, they were lodged in a separate police barrack under security and they would stay there till receipt of clearances from the Bangladesh Government, said Additional District Magistrate Sambit Nayak.

“The process is under progress. Hopefully, it will be completed soon.  Food will be provided to them by the district administration till they are deported,” said Nayak.

The Bangladishi nationals along with two others, Babu Khan (32)  and Basar Mulla (38), had been apprehended by the Baleswar police on May 28, 2007. They were involved in a series of crimes, including armed dacoities, in the Basta, Baleswar Town and Nilgiri areas.

While Babu Khan is undergoing term in the Choudwar jail, Mulla is in Dhenkanal jail.

During interrogations, they had disclosed to police that that they had intruded India through Bengal border from Bangladesh through touts.

On September 6, 2013, the Court of Additional Sessions Judge had awarded 10 years of RI to them and imposed fine of Rs 2,000 on each of them in default of payment they had to undergo more months of RI.

Although they were awarded 10 years of RI, jail authorities, following reviews of their conduct, decided to release them before completion of their terms.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said that they are scheduled to return to Bangladesh on September 2.

“In fact, there is no delay or lack of response from the Bangladesh Government. A lot of paper works have to be done as per guidelines before handing over illegal immigrants. The embassies of both the countries need to be informed and clearances need to be obtained before deportations. After completion of the procedures, they are slated to be handed over to Bangladesh officials on September 2,” he said.
