Financial instability has compelled the management of Vedanta project to initiate retrenchment of its workers. Its direct impact is felt while considering reemployment of the workers of the earlier STEAG Company, taken over by the Powermech factory recently.Hundreds of workers gathered on Tuesday in a meeting convened by the district administration at the Collectorate on Wednesday with the representatives of Vedant Project, Powermech and STEAG.As per the decisions taken in the tripartite meeting, it was decided to induct all the earlier workers of STEAG in the Powermech, subject to certain conditions.

From July 17, the educational, technical and nativity certificates of these workers will be verified where the locals of Jharsuguda, undivided Sambalpur and neighbouring districts will get preference over the others. However, the candidature will be disqualified in cases where the certificates were found to be false and forged.Sources said 735 workers of STEAG Company have applied for reemployment to whom appointment letters will be issued from July 17. Similarly, 312 workers have not expressed their choice. They will be considered for transfer to other places in phases. Till joining their new places, they will continue to get their salary regularly without any break. The workers opting to quit the job will also be paid all their dues like bonus and gratuity etc by July 25.

For this, a temporary office will function in front of the main gate of the factory to receive the applications and answer all the related queries by the representatives of Vedant Project, Powermech and STEAG companies.  District Collector Parmeshwaran B appealed to all to maintain peace and not to take law into their own hands in solving their issues. The meeting was presided over by the district Collector in the presence of District labour Officer Arun Ray and senior officials of the district.
