At long last, a retrenched woman clerk of a college got justice after a court asked her authority to reinstate her and provide her salary as arrear since the day she was removed from service.
Gitanjali Mallick, a resident of Silipur village under Marshaghai police station, got an appointment as a clerk in Sri Baladevjew College of Education in 1992. But in 1994, the secretary of the college dismissed her from the job. Protesting the injustice to her, Gitanjali appealed in the labour court by filing a petition against the college authority. later, the labour court directed the college authority to reinstate Mallick as her dismissal was illegal and disburse 40 per cent of her salary from the date she had been dismissed from her job. But, the college authority did not pay any heed to the direction of the court.
Subsequently, Gitanjali once again appealed in the labour court against the college authority for violating the order. Adjudging the matter, the court directed the then district labour officer to file a case at the JMFC court of Kendrapara against the college authority. When the JMFC court adjudged the case on Saturday, it directed the college authority to reinstate Mallick in her post, provide 40 per cent of her salary since 1994 and pay a fine of Rs 5,000 within two months. The court made it clear that incase the college authority did not oblige the direction, a criminal case would be registered against the secretary of the college.
