The Freethought Party of India has urged the State Government to continue use of English as the medium of communication in administration and education.
A delegation led by party president Bijayananda Kar and vice-president B Ramchandra CST Voltaire met the member of the inter-ministerial committee on implementation of Orissa language Act-1954 and law Minister Arun Sahu and submitted a memorandum to this effect.
The party alleged that the demand of Odia Bhasa Suraksha Samiti to ensure Odia as an official language is unreasonable and outdated.
“Many more linguistic problems will crop up if Odia becomes the language of administration in the State. States like Koshali State, Kui, Ho and Shantali would be carved out from the present State of Odisha if Odia becomes the language of administration and education,” stated the memorandum.
