A delegation of the Manav Adhikar Suraksha Manch (MASM), an organisation fighting for protection of human rights, led by its coordinator advocate Abani Kumar Gaya met BMC Commissioner Ajit Kumar Mishra on Saturday and submitted a memorandum to him demanding painting, renovation and placing of the National Flag over the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose located at the PVN Rao Petrol Tank Square in the heart of the city as it is damaged in the Phailin.
The Tricolour, an in-built part of the statue of Netaji, was broken during the cyclone and incessant rains in October last. Neither the district administration nor the BMC has taken the destruction of the national flag into consideration which is unfortunate, said Gaya. Since the Netaji Jayanti is to be celebrated on January 23 which is approaching fast, the flag must be restored at the earliest, he said.
The BMC Commissioner assured the delegation to set right the statue before January 23, sources said. Among others, president of Netaji Saraswat Manch Dillip Kumar Choudhury, scribe Prasant Das, Maguni Nahak and MASM president Upendranath Mishra were in the delegation.
