The State Government implemented cage fish farming scheme in Rengali Dam in Pallahara ( known as second Chilika) in 2017.
The objectives of the scheme were to efficiently use existing reservoir's water and create alternative source of fish production and income generation.
But due to the lack of proper guidance by the district Fishery Department, the scheme has failed and the Government sustained a huge loss.
But due to lack of proper guidance, now the infrastructure for cage farming has already been damaged in the reservoir. Anti-socials have also stolen some of the instruments. It is said the loss in the scheme is worth Rs 60 lakh. DFO Angul Santanu Kumar Sahoo has not fixed accountability on any one till now. The villagers have demanded intervention of MP Mahesh Sahoo to regulate the scheme
properly.
