'Rename Baleswar railway station after Fakir Mohan'

PNS

During discussion on the Railway Budget, Baleswar MP RK Jena demanded that the Baleswar railway station be renamed as Fakir Mohan Senapati railway station.

The Baleswar railway station was built and lines were laid between 1893 and 1896, which is during the life period of doyen of Odia language Fakir Mohan Senapati. Since he saved the language when it had been facing a severe identity crisis, it would be a tribute to the great personality who is also regarded as father of modern Odia literature, said Jena.

Jena further demanded that Baleswar to be brought under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction and urged the Railway Minister to consider the demands.

“The Baleswar station, which was initially under the Bengal Nagpur Railway (BNR), is over 130 year old. Although it later came under the SE Railways, it has not seen the desired developments due to some reason or the others.

For better convenience of commuters as well as effective management and efficient operation of the railway station, Baleswar region should be brought under the ECoR, the MP said.
