Situation in VIMSAR, Burla is gradually spinning out of control with the PG students and house surgeons resorting to ceasework as per their earlier programme.
“Third and fourth grade employeeshave also extended their support to the Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA). We also got the support of the Odisha Medial Teachers’ Association (OMTA),” saidJDA president Dr Devabrata Ray.
Notably, the JDA has been demanding removal of Director DrAswiniPujahari for his allegedly megalomaniac way of functioning. Even some doctors of theinstitute are making similar demand of the removal of the Director.
But there are also sections of people who extend their support to the Director. “The Director has become very strict against the ongoingirregularities and negligence of the doctors. Hence, he has taken theright step which is causing personal loss for a few,” opined members ofsocial organisations and civil society forums.
The impact of the cease work was also clearly seen in Burla medicalwith less numbers of people both in indoor and outdoor. Since PGstudents and house surgeons are the backbone of the institution, intheir absence, it is obvious for the patients and their attendants tofeel insecure.
However, Director Dr Pujahariclaimed that the hospital was running smoothly. “Both indoor and outdoor arefunctioning normally. There are doctors who are doing their dutieswith all sincerity feeling the gravity of the current situation forwhich there is no problem as narrated by others,” he said.
