Trouble mounted for arrested city-based realtor-cum-film producer Niranjan Rana as a fresh plaint of cheating Rs40 lakh was lodged against him at the Saheed Nagar police station and police booked him under the Odisha Protection of Interests of Depositors (OPID) Act 2011 here on Thursday.

As per the allegation, he cheated Rs40 lakh on the plea to provide flats to a customer.

Meanwhile, the police booked Rana under the OPID Act. Under the Act, the property of Rana would be confiscated.

Once the designated courts pass confiscation order under the OPID Act, the Additional District Magistrates (ADM) would advertise the date of auction of the properties in newspapers and websites.

last week, Rana had been arrested on the charge of cheating his clients of Rs 9 crore. Rana had diverted the money he collected from gullible investors into the film industry and even produced six Odia films.

When police picked up Rana, two well-known actors tried to convince the complainants to settle the matter amicably. They even tried to strike a settlement on behalf of Rana, which indicates his excellent rapport with the film fraternity. Rana is the managing director of the Maa Tarini Eastcon Builders, a real estate company.
