In a significant development in the case of murder of Rama Devi Women’s University student Jharaphula Nayak (21), police have identified the two accused, informed the Jajpur SP on Thursday, adding that they would be arrested soon.
While police were yet to reveal the reason behind Jharaphula’s murder, her father has alleged the involvement of a youth in the case claiming that he was his daughter’s lover.“One Rakesh Swain, who is engaged in pipeline work in our village, developed an affair with my daughter during the period when she had returned home from the university due to the lockdown.
Both were having conversations with each other through WhatsApp and video calls,” said Jharaphula’s father Ramakant Nayak.“My daughter had gone to Bhubaneswar on January 24 to attend the birthday function of Chakradhar Sir’s daughter, which was held on January 25. On January 26 at around 11 am, Chakradhar Sir dropped her at Jayadev Vihar Square, where she boarded a private bus to return to the village. However, she alighted from the vehicle near Vani Vihar after complaining of stomachache and informed me that she would board the next bus. Later around 3 pm, she told me that she stayed at her friend’s house due to the ailment.
