RCM MBA students continue fast

The MBA students of the Regional College of Management (RCM) here continued their indefinite stir along with hunger strike for the second day demanding issuance of final degree certificates in favour of pass-out students without further delay.

Nearly 200 students, including around 80 girls, participated in the round-the-clock dharna in front of the college shouting slogans against the college authorities. “We will continue our agitation against the college authorities till our demands are fulfilled,” said an MBA student of the college, Suresh Behera.

While four students were on hunger strike, one of them is reportedly undergoing treatment in a private hospital, said Suresh who was on hunger strike on Wednesday.

Another student, Zaffar Iqbal, said the Chandrasekharpur police on Tuesday night came to them and compelled the girls to leave the dharna spot. The police officials urged the students not to sit in an open tent throughout the night as girls were there. But the students didn’t listen to the police and continued the dharna.

Notably, due to a dispute over its admission into MBA course, the institute has not been able to get certificates from the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) since 2009 and, hence, has failed to provide them to the pass-out students.
