A 32-year-old woman of Deogarh district, who had been raped and assaulted, succumbed to her injuries at the VIMSAR at Burla on Thursday evening.
Reports said the victim, a resident of the Deogarh police station area, had been admitted by her family members to the hospital around five days ago when she complained of severe stomach ache.
When doctors at the hospital found injuries in her private part and asked her about it, she revealed about her ordeal. After raping her, the miscreant had allegedly inserted a stick into her private part leaving her critically injured.
However, it was yet to be ascertained whether she was raped by a miscreant or it was a case of gang-rape.
Police said the postmortem report would reveal the facts. Meanwhile, the Burla police registered an unnatural death case and informed their Deogarh counterparts about the incident.
