She was beaten up and raped. She filed police complaint but was put behind bars for around a month as the police acted on a complaint of the accused sidelining hers.
According to the victim, a 23-year-old llB student of the Bhawanipata law College and a resident of Utkela village under the Kesinga Police Station in Kalahandi district, she was raped on September 16 by a person in the house of Surendra Panda(45), an employee of SBI Jarinj Medical branch in Bhawanipatna, in the presence of Surendra’s wife Diptimayee Panda. Elaborating her ordeal, the girl said Surendra, with whom she came in contact during a loan disbursement matter about two years ago, used to send her nude pictures and abusive messages in her mobile phone.
“Unable to bear the trauma, I contacted his wife Diptimayee on September 12 about the nuisance of her husband, who later called me on September 16 to her house for a compromise. When I reached her house at about 11 am, she all of sudden took me to her bedroom and called a person who raped me. later, Diptimayee and the unknown person also beat me mercilessly injuring my fingers,” said the victim. However, I managed to escape from their clutches and when I was going to hospital Diptymayee’s brother also attacked me.
“In the meantime Diptimayee lodged a complaint in the Bhawanipatna Town Police Station alleging that I tried to murder her and the police arrested me on the same day from the hospital without hearing me,” said the girl. “I spent 36 days in jail. The police neither received my FIR nor conducted medical treatment on me. It has damaged evidences as I levelled rape charge,” she said.
The girl said though she has knocked the doors of Chief Minister, Kalahandi district Collector and SP and other higher authorities in this regard, the police are yet to nab Surendra and his wife Diptimayee and the person who raped her. “I urge the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter at the earliest and ensure justice to me failing which I will be forced to commit suicide,” warned the girl.
