The Bhasa Suraksha Sammilani State advisory committee on Wednesday urged to the Government to use of Odia language in its all official documents from the State Secretariat to gram panchayat office level. The Sammilani has been pressing for implementation of the Odisha Official language Act, 1954 to use Odia in all official works.
Sammilani president and Rajya Sabha BJD member Baishnab Charan Parida said the Government must pass an order for introduction of Odia in administration, courts, educational institutions and trade and commerce. If the language is used in official communicationd, there would be jobs for people with knowledge of Odia. Only announcement to use Odia in official notifications is not enough to promote the language.
The Government must form an Odia language Commission. All the examinations pertaining to the Odisha Administrative Service and other State Government services should be conducted in Odia, he said.
The Sammilani also demanded use of Odia in proceedings of the legislative Assembly, filling up of vacant posts in the Odia departments of various schools, colleges and universities.
Parida requested MlAs cutting across party lines to raise the issue in the Assembly during its coming session.
Among others, Dr Bhagaban Prakash, Prof Nityanada Satpathy, Rabi Behera, Amitabh Khila and Monoranjan Behera were present at the meeting.
