PNS

The proposed tripartite meeting among the district administration, Posco officials and affected villagers from Nuagaon, Dhinkia, Govindapur and Gadakujanga villages scheduled to be held in Nuagaon on Wednesday was deferred due to Tuesday’s torrential rains.

Reports said that after the villagers razed Posco’s boundary wall and set ablaze its offices in Nuagaon village, the project construction work has come to a grinding halt. Meanwhile, the villagers have erected a wooden gate on the outskirts of Nuagaon village restricting entry of civil officials, police and Posco officials’ entry into the village over past two weeks.

Acting on the incident, the district administration had asked the irate villagers for holding a tri- party discussion to sort out the impasse. The residents had responded to the administration’s offer.

The meeting was scheduled to be held on Wednesday.  But torrential rains on Tuesday night created the hindrance. All the stakeholders, including villagers, could not be communicated properly and the Jagatsinghpur Collector informed about the postponement of the meeting to some other date. The proposed meeting would be held shortly after the Collector reschedules its date, informed pro Posco resident from Nuagaon Tamil Pradhan.
