Rain causes havoc in Subarnapur

PNS

The low pressure-triggered rain over the last two days caused havoc in Birmaharajpur sub-division and created a flood-like situation in Subarnapur district.

Thousands of people were in panic as the water levels rose in Bauri Jor and Harihar Jor rivers. The road communication between Subarnapur to Redhakhol and Birmaharajpur to Subalaya was snapped after the rainwater flowed over the bridges. All communications between Birmaharajpur and Subalaya, Subarnapur and Redhakhol through Bishipada were also disrupted with roads being inundated.

Three blocks in the district recorded 110-200 mm of rainfall while Birmaharajpur, Ullunda and Dunguripali blocks recorded 210-300 mm. Several villages of Birmaharajpur, Binka NAC and Ullunda blocks were submerged.

A few houses of Ward-12 of the Binka NAC collapsed due to incessant rains and the residents were staying at the Jabda School. They were provided cooked and dry food by the Binka NAC, said Executive Officer Dukhiram Naik.
