Jharkhand Police will rely on Quick Response Teams (QRT) to tackle any emergency situation till Anti-terrorist squad is set up in the State. QRTs comprising small teams of trained police personnel will be set up in every district.

“To deal with the emergency situation in the state, QRTs are being set up comprising 30- 60 people in a group,” said ADG (law & Order) and Police Spokesperson SN Pradhan.

According to Pradhan, the teams are being formed to deal with any type of emergency situation – maybe it is Naxal crisis, hostage crisis and crisis arising after an earthquake, drought or even a terror attack.

It is a temporary arrangement being made to equip police department to deal with any crisis till ATS is formed in the State. QRT will be dealing with any of the crisis situation which will arise in the district.

QRTs will be formed out of police personnel from the District Armed Police (DAP) who are specially trained for anti-Naxal operations. Pradhan added that it has already been formed in 14 out of 24 districts of the state. Rest of the districts will also have the QRTs soon, he said.

Jharkhand Police, after the revelation of the Ranchi module of Indian Muzahideen in Sithio village, some 20 km from the state headquarters, and the disclosure of the Ranchi link of Patna and Bodh Gaya blasts which took place a few months back, have pulled up its socks to deal with the terrorist operatives.

The DGP in a letter written to the Union Home Ministry has also demanded ATS in the State as well as a permanent office of NIA in Ranchi to deal with any untoward situation in the State.

The current arrangements are supposed to be made to deal with any untoward situation in the State till the formation of ATS and NIA office in the State.
