Vigilance officials on Thursday arrested VlW Prasanna Parida of Sriramchandrapur gram panchayat under Satyabadi block in Puri district for demanding and accepting bribe.
Complaint Naba Krushna Mishra of Nua Sameswarpur village alleged that he and two fellow villagers were selected in Grama Sabha to get financial assistance of Rs 12,000, each, for construction of toilets under the Zilla Jala O Parimala Mission Gramina Yojana.
Accordingly, they constructed toilets for their houses. But the VlW demanded Rs 2,000, each, from the three for forwarding the required documents and final bill to the Satyabadi BDO for disbursement of the assistance.
The VlW had earlier taken Rs 700 and insisted Mishra to pay the rest amount of Rs 5,300. Finding no alternative, Mishra reported the matter to the Vigilance. later, a trap was laid and Parida was caught red-handed.
