The Shree Jagannath-Shree Kedarnath Temple Management Committee, Pathargar, Dhenkanal on Friday hailed formation of a Judicial Commission to recommend measures for smooth management of rituals of the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri.

“As servitors are being appointed at the Shreemandir on a hereditary basis, they are adopting monopolistic attitude and creating troubles. The recent attack on the district Collector and journalists is just an example of it,” said committee president and former MlA Bibhudhendra  Pratap Das in a statement.

Stating that the arrest of two servitors for misbehaving with the Puri Collector and the suspension of nine Sevayats are a welcome step, Das suggested that the Shree Jagannath Temple Management Rule be amended soon by appointing servitors from outside to resolve the problems being created by servitors frequently.

Reminding that the then Chief Minister Biju Patnaik had in 1995 directed the police to arrest servitors who were opposing repair work of the Shreemandir, Das said, “Priests and servitors can be appointed from outside on the advice of Shree Shankaracharya. If such changes take place, people of Odisha and also of the entire country will extend their support to the State Government.”
