The Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Inspector-cum-Peskar, Office of Additional Sub- Collector, Puri-cum-Consolidation Officer, Nimapara, Pradeep Kumar Dash for accepting `30,000 as bribe. A trap was laid on the day and Dash was caught red-handed.
Complainant Manoj Kumar Dash, an advocate in the Orissa High Court, had approached the accused for early finalization of 20 mutation cases but the latter had demanded `1 lakh for the work and later settled for `30,000 as advance. His rented house at Nimapara and paternal house at Bhadrak was searched.
In yet another case, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada, convicted one Pratap Chandra Rout, former Junior Engineer, Sarasakana Block and sentenced him to undergo RI for a period of a year and pay fine of `10,000 and to undergo RI for two months for each default in a bribery case.
On June 28, 2001, Rajesh Kumar Ghose of Jharpokharia, Mayurbhanj had lodged a complaint before SP, Vigilance, Baleswar regarding demand of illegal gratification of `2,500 from him by accused Rout to prepare a bill for a well.
