Breaking its last year’s record, the Mata Mutt here prepared a grand menu comprising as many as 821 delicacies for offering to Sri Krishna on Monday.

To mark ByanjanDwadasi, which is famous for foods in Hindu calendar, the mutt hosted guests and invitees after offering the dishes to the Lord. Last year, the mutt had prepared 701 items.

SubalMaharaj, seer of Mata Mutt, situated at GaurVihar in the city said, “Due to Covid lockdown in 2020, we had squeezed the menu to 151 items only. We have been adding more items every year to the menu.”

The elongated food chart is a part of the Hindu tradition which dates back to the Mahabharata age, said the seer.

Tourism and Culture Minister AswiniPatra was among the guests this year to relish the foods.

The menu hosted to guests included 21 varieties of rice, 126 curries, 15 Payas, 50 green leafs and 161 chutnys, besides a slew of vegetable fries, cakes, chocolates and sweetmeats etc.

As many as 20 stoves were used to cook the items and women devotees were engaged in the cooking. For preparing such a long menu, the women disciples had started cooking a day before.

An epic has it that Goddess Yasoda on the very day fed her son Sri Krishna with a variety of delicacies, preparing them in own hand, when her daughter in-law Rukmini (wife of Sri Krishna) was on a maternal tour. So to celebrate the great occasion, various mutts and monasteries prepare delicacies for offering on the day. The mutts belonging to the Vaishnavite cult celebrate the occasion as Food Day with utmost devotion and gaiety.
