Puri Additional Sessions Judge Subhadarshi Pattnaik on Friday sentenced one Banamali Barik to life imprisonment for raping and killing a minor blind girl on June 5, 2013. He was also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000.
Barik, a resident of Kalika Nuapada village under the Chandanpur police limits, had taken the girl to a nearby forest, raped her and killed her on the spot.
Earlier on Thursday, the court had convicted Banamali in this case and reserved pronouncement of the sentence for Friday.
Public Prosecutor Santos Kumar Mund conducted the case.
